Waste is Opportunity and Life

A recycling network to bolster the vulnerable

What does waste mean to you?

In Cartagena, Colombia, María Helena, Jaime, Lisbeth and Carolay know very well that waste means opportunity and life.

They are joined by thousands of other waste pickers, waste buyers and waste generators:  from families to local businesses like Cafè del Mar, Colombian national players like the beverages market leader Postobon and waste transformers like Ekored and Essentia. They are now part of a well-integrated recycling network. As a result, they are better informed and work synergistically within the recycling supply chain.

The Fundes Reciclamos Juntos project is optimising Cartagena's recycling supply chain by better interconnecting all players  to increase the capacities of waste pickers, collection centres and up-cycling companies.

By building a safe, profitable and collaborative recycling network, the project tackles wealth inequality in Cartagena, granting waste pickers dignity and safer prospects.
