The Simunye (We Are One) Show is a podcast exploring how social capital — the value found in our relationships — influences lives and shapes opportunity. In each episode, researchers, artists, entrepreneurs, and community leaders share personal journeys, reflecting on how their connections have opened doors, created support networks, and driven change.
Simunye is a social capital initiative led by Christel House South Africa, a non-profit school, in partnership with the Julius Baer Foundation. The programme brings together air twelve schools across the economic spectrum in the Western Cape, fostering meaningful interaction between students from different backgrounds. By rotating visits between schools and encouraging direct engagement, Simunye builds genuine understanding and breaks down barriers created by inequality.
At its core, the programme uses a dedicated social capital curriculum taught within small, consistent groups. This combination of hands-on experience and structured learning equips learners with confidence and skills to thrive in diverse, multicultural settings.
Social capital refers to the collective strength of human connections—how trust, cooperation, and mutual support enable communities to flourish. The Simunye Show highlights this power through candid conversations with educators, innovators, public figures, and experts. Each story reveals both personal struggles and broader lessons, pointing toward common values that unite people across divides.
Ultimately, the podcast and programme aim to strengthen empathy, challenge assumptions, and inspire action—proving that when we connect meaningfully, we grow together.
